Tanning – FAQ

What is airbrush tanning?

Airbrush tanning is personalized body airbrushing technique using an Airbrush Spray System that distributes an even mist all over the body. This service is performed by a technician as opposed to a machine to ensure that you receive the best customized tan possible.

How long does an airbrush tan last?

Depending on after care and skin type, our tans generally last between 7 and 10 days. Airbrush tanning produces color on the outermost layer of the skin, and that layer is being discarded, cell-by-cell. If you wear your skin hard, take long hot baths or showers, wear clothes that chafe, or do anything to encourage the skin to “shed,” so does your tan. You can extend the life of your tan by using a high quality, non-alcoholic moisturizer and tan extender lotion at least once daily.

How safe is airbrush tanning?

The primary ingredient, DHA (dihydroxyacetone), is derived from raw sugar cane and has been FDA approved for cosmetic use. DHA has been used safely over the years in numerous sunless tanning products, such as creams and lotions. The premium quality product we use is manufactured with the most advanced method available. Our solution allows for better adhesion and longer lasting results than similarly advertised products, which charge more, and is without the odd coloring effects of earlier generation products.

Does airbrush tanning protect me from the sun?

No. Airbrush tanning does not protect you from the sun. We recommend using a protective sunscreen anytime you are out in the sun. This can also help prevent your tan from fading if you swim or workout often.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

  • Wear dark, baggy clothing and wear sandals. Tight clothing can either create unsightly lines or wipe off your tan entirely. Your clothes should be easy to take on and off without rubbing. Some solution may rub off on your clothing while you process. Throwing them in the wash as soon as you get home will help to avoid any stains.
  • Exfoliate the area to be tanned before your appointment
  • Do not use lotion, makeup, or deodorant the day of your appointment. Lotions and oils prevent the tan from adhering to the deeper layers of the skin making it easier to rub off or stopping the tan process entirely.

How long does the service take?

Depending on the color you desire, the service can take 15 to 25 minutes including drying time.

Can I shower right away?

Our solutions require between 10 to 12 hours processing time to achieve the desired color. If you shower before the solution has fully processed, the majority of your tan will likely wash off in the shower. We recommend leaving your tan on for at least 10 hours before showering for optimal processing and color.

How do I maintain my tan?

Moisturize! We recommend moisturizing up to twice a day or more depending on your skin type. And, of course, schedule regular airbrush tanning sessions to keep your summer bronze all year long.
